Fishers Exterior Trim and Garage Door

Just completed an exterior trim job that included staining a 12 year old wooden garage door. The door was a challenge due to the shape and previous stains put on it. We used a stripper attempting to get down to the original wood, but it did not get all of the previous stains off. The customer wanted to use a semi-transparent stain but with the different colors and condition, we convinced them to select a solid stain. They selected a reddish brown color from Sherwin Williams and it looked great when done.

Another Fishers Exterior Trim Job

Ryan and I completed another exterior trim job in Fishers. We pressure washed the wood and vinyl siding and then spent some time caulking. We used Sherwin Williams Duration as the trim paint and it looked good when we were done. I again used the "roof boots" in order to paint the trim on a very steeped pitch roof. We used our Graco hand held sprayer to do the spindles. I like the sprayer, but it doesn't do very well when you have to change the angles to get to difficult areas.

Fishers Chimney

Ryan and I completed a chimney today. It was on the top of a very high house with a steep pitch. I was able to handle the pitch with my Pivit Ladder Tools though. I had to do some scraping and priming. Then I applied Porter Acrylic Latex to the hardie boards and a Porter trim paint to the fascia boards. It took about 4 hours.

Fishers exterior siding repair

Completed a difficult one day job that included working on a roof that was very steep and also fully extending my 32' extension ladder to reach the top of the chimney.

I was able to use my recently purchased "roof boots" to handle the steep roof line. This allowed me to lay a ladder on the roof and sit on it to prep and paint the siding. The roof was just to steep for the pivit ladder tools.

Large Interior Trim Job in Fishers

Ryan and I just finished up a large interior trim project that took us 4 days. It was over 900 lineal feet and included crown molding, baseboards, and door and window trim. We were going from a brown stain to extra white latex semi-gloss.

We used a low odor oil-base primer from Sherwin Williams to knock down the brown and then we put a finish coat of Sherwin Williams ProClassic, the expensive but high quality trim and door paint.

Steps:

1. Caulked all cracks between wall and trim. We ended up caulking almost all of the baseboards.
2. Used FrogTape where the trim met the wall since we were not painting the walls. Also, it makes it easier to cut in and keep paint off the walls.
3. Removed all doors with electric drill for ease of painting.
4. Put primer coat on.
5. Put finish coat on.
6. Removed FrogTape.
7. Reinstalled doors.
8. Minor touch-up and cleanup.

Lessons learned:
1. Use oil-base primer when converting stain to a latex finish.
2. Take off doors by the hinges in order to get a better finish on the hinges side plus you can paint the door trim in about half the time.
3. When using FrogTape with an oil base paint or primer, lightly hit the tape with a wet rag before painting in order to activate the "Paintblock", which is normally activated with the water-based latex paint. If you don't do this, you will get some seepage.
4. When only painting trim (and a lot of it) and you do not have the wall paint, taping is probably prudent. To cut in twice, is very time consuming and will take more time than if you tape.

Fishers Exterior Trim job

Ryan and I finished up a typical Fishers house exterior trim job. We painted all the wood trim, front and back porches, and large garage doors. We also took down the old shutters and hung new ones.

Steps:
1. We pressure washed all the wood trim and garaged doors in order to clean and open the pores on the wood.
2. The next day we spent all day caulking with a little bit of painting.
3. We took down all the vertical gutters to get to the fascia board behind them.
4. Applied Sherwin Williams "Duration" with a satin finish.
5. Sprayed the garage doors with our smaller hand held sprayer and the doors looked great in full sun.
